Dutch Cop - patient cop, mental perp! (Quality subtitles!) American cop - patient perp, mental cop!
Probably not a typical American cop, but seriously, WTF?

Originally by: Tarminic Honestly, I think the guy deserved it. He made a long chain of bad decisions:
1. He refused to sign a ticket (which I'm fairly certain you have to do even if you protest it later in court) and starts arguing with the cop. The cop has no choice but to arrest him 2. After getting out of the car, the guy stops listening to the instructions of the officer 3. After taking out the tazer and pointing it at him, the guy decides to ignore him and walk back to his vehicle. At this point he is officially evading arrest
The police officer seems like he was just following procedures, otherwise he would have had to chase the guy after he took off. Granted, the officer should have said something like "If you don't sign this, I'm going to have to arrest you," but I still think the driver was the one who screwed up.
You don't think the officer could have talked things through some more before suddenly going nuts and starting shouting? He took it up a notch and took a pretty much "under control" situation suddenly way out of control.
OK I'm from the UK and maybe underestimate the chance of someone pulling a gun from their pocket, but that cop's actions just seem totally insane to me.

Originally by: Orion Eridanus Ok so you pick out one incident out of a countless number of traffic stops that occur each day with out a hitch. I guess all American cops must be trigger happy and bad then eh? I guess that means all Dutch cops are polite and are incapable of doing wrong.
Which is precisely why my first post said "Probably not a typical American cop, but seriously, WTF?"
I really don't want this to turn into an anti American / anti Cop rant, but that one particular guy at least needs to be just serving (flipping burgers!) rather than Protecting and Serving.

Originally by: flaming phantom well i personally think tazers are a great arsenal for the police. they are a way of incapacitating someone without any real damage. yea ok they hurt a little, big deal. would u rather they point a 9mm at u? i think not. you also need to keep in mind there are a lot of messed up people in the world (noteably here in the US) and cops have gotten shot or shot at by people they pull over, so when the guy wouldnt comply with signing and then wouldnt follow orders, even when he had a tazer pointed at him was kinda stupid.
You're giving us only two choices, both bad. By making one of the choices really bad, ie 9mm death, the second choice almost sounds reasonable, but it's not.
The 3rd choice is to spend quite a bit more time sorting things out before resorting to an armed response. More concerning to me about this incident is that the cop actually threw fuel and a match onto a calm situation by starting shouting.
